Frequently asked questions

When are Kashmir packages cheapest?

March, early April, and November — shoulder months with usable weather and low occupancy. The most expensive weeks are the Christmas–New Year window and the June school holidays.

What should I pack for Kashmir in winter?

Layers rather than one heavy coat, waterproof footwear with grip, gloves and a hat. Snow boots can be hired at Gulmarg, which is usually more sensible than carrying them.

When does the Tulip Garden open?

Typically for a few weeks in April, though the exact window shifts each year with the weather. Booking a trip specifically around the bloom is risky unless you can keep the dates flexible.

What happens if snow closes the road to Gulmarg?

A well-run itinerary is rearranged rather than cancelled — usually by swapping the Gulmarg day for a Srinagar gardens day and retrying later in the trip. Ask how this is handled before you book.

Do I need travel insurance for Kashmir?

Recommended, particularly in winter when flight cancellations are common and road closures can extend a trip by a day or more.

Is Sonamarg open in winter?

Usually not. Sonamarg sits on the Srinagar–Leh highway at 2,730 m and is generally closed by snow from around December to early April. Any December or January itinerary that promises Sonamarg should be questioned.
