Frequently asked questions

What is not included in a typical Kashmir package?

Most packages exclude return airfare, Gulmarg gondola tickets, local union taxis at Pahalgam and Sonamarg, pony rides, and entry tickets at ticketed gardens. Union taxi charges in particular surprise people, because they are compulsory and separate from your package vehicle.

When are Kashmir packages cheapest?

March, early April, and November — shoulder months with usable weather and low occupancy. The most expensive weeks are the Christmas–New Year window and the June school holidays.

Is 2 days enough for Kashmir?

Not realistically. Two days covers Srinagar itself — the Mughal gardens and a shikara ride — and little else. Gulmarg is 105 minutes each way and Pahalgam 150, so a single valley excursion consumes most of a day. Two nights is a stopover rather than a Kashmir trip.

Is 5 days enough for Kashmir?

Yes, and four to five nights is what our standard packages are built around. It covers Srinagar as a base with day excursions to Gulmarg, Sonamarg and Pahalgam at an unhurried pace. Five nights lets you sleep one night in Pahalgam and one on a houseboat instead of returning to the same hotel every evening.

How do you start planning a Kashmir trip?

Fix the month first, because it decides what is open — Sonamarg is snowbound from December to early April, and the tulip bloom lasts a few weeks in April. Then set the length: four to five nights fits the main circuit. Then choose your base, which for most people is Srinagar. Flights and hotels come last, once those three are settled.

How do you choose a Kashmir tour operator?

Ask three things. What is excluded — a straight operator will tell you the gondola, pony rides and the local union taxis at Pahalgam and Sonamarg are extra, because they are. Who you speak to on the ground if a road closes. And whether the itinerary matches the season: any winter package including Sonamarg is wrong, because it is snowbound. An operator who answers all three plainly is worth more than one quoting the lowest number.
