Frequently asked questions

How reliable is snow at Gulmarg?

Reliable from roughly late December through February. November and early December are a gamble. If snow is the entire reason for the trip, January and February are the safest months.

Can vegetarian and Jain meals be arranged?

Yes, but it needs confirming with hotels in advance. Options are good in Srinagar and thin out considerably at Gulmarg and Pahalgam, where hotel kitchens are the only realistic source.

Is Kashmir suitable for young children?

Pahalgam and Srinagar are comfortable for most children. Gulmarg at 2,650 m and Sonamarg at 2,730 m are cold and high enough that very young children can struggle, particularly in winter.

When does the Tulip Garden open?

Typically for a few weeks in April, though the exact window shifts each year with the weather. Booking a trip specifically around the bloom is risky unless you can keep the dates flexible.

Are flights included in package prices?

Usually not in the base price. Airfare to Srinagar varies widely by season and origin city, so it is normally quoted separately once dates are fixed.

What is Chillai-Kalan?

The traditional 40-day period of deepest winter in Kashmir, running from around 21 December to 31 January. It is when snowfall is heaviest and most reliable, and when the valley is coldest.
